A monitor arm is one of the most affordable ways to get desk surface back. These picks come from published reviews and retailer listings, not from our own testing. We compare them on clamp type, desk thickness limits, VESA and weight compatibility, and how they behave on thin or inexpensive desks.

What we look for

Our picks

How we picked these. Wirecutter tested 25 monitor arms, but its top picks are premium arms, not budget ones, and its only budget pick is the Mount-It below. The other three arms come from two small review sites (DeskFinds: Best Monitor Arms Under 100 (2026), Desk & Dowel: Best Budget Monitor Arm (updated Sep 22, 2026)), which link to Amazon and are likely affiliate-funded. We did not test any of these arms, and no source we found publishes sales or profit data, so we make no claim about how well any of them sells.

For context, Wirecutter said it passed on the North Bayou F80 because its vertical range is only 9 inches (Wirecutter: The Best Monitor Arms (updated Mar 2, 2026)). We have not included it. Desk & Dowel's own top pick, the ErGear 13-36 inch arm, is also left out because the Amazon data for it was inconsistent in our research.

Pick 1 · Gas-spring pick

HUANUO FlowLift Single Monitor Arm (gas spring)

Brand: HUANUO

Why it’s included: DeskFinds names it the "best overall" arm in its under-100 guide (DeskFinds: Best Monitor Arms Under 100 (2026)). Evidence level: one small review site, not Wirecutter.

Pros (as reported by the cited source)

  • Wide tilt range that DeskFinds says covers height changes on a sit-stand desk. (DeskFinds)
  • Aluminum construction that DeskFinds calls rigid for its price class. (DeskFinds)
  • Both a C-clamp and a grommet mount are included. (DeskFinds)
  • Installs with the included hex key. (DeskFinds)

Cons (as reported by the cited source)

  • 19.8 lb maximum load; DeskFinds says it is not rated for heavy 34-inch-plus monitors over 18 lb. (DeskFinds)
  • Uses external cable clips rather than enclosed channels. (DeskFinds)
  • 1-year warranty. (DeskFinds)

Pick 2 · Ultrawide-friendly pick

VIVO Single Monitor Arm STAND-V001

Brand: VIVO

Why it’s included: Both DeskFinds ("best value, ultrawide compatible", DeskFinds: Best Monitor Arms Under 100 (2026)) and Desk & Dowel ("best for ultrawide", Desk & Dowel: Best Budget Monitor Arm (updated Sep 22, 2026)) include it. VIVO is a widely sold budget brand. Evidence level: two small review sites.

Pros (as reported by the cited source)

  • Rated for ultrawide screens up to 38 inches, with a 22 lb capacity. (Desk & Dowel)
  • Clamp takes desktops up to 3.25 inches thick and tightens by hand without tools. (Desk & Dowel)
  • Built-in cable routing channels and US-based brand support. (DeskFinds)

Cons (as reported by the cited source)

  • Height is set along a pole, so you loosen and retighten rather than glide it with one hand. (Desk & Dowel)
  • No published extension figure, so reach across a deep desk is unknown. (Desk & Dowel)
  • Slightly bulkier arm joint, and the black finish is the only option for this model. (DeskFinds)

Pick 3 · Long-reach pick

MOUNTUP Single Monitor Desk Mount (MU0004)

Brand: MOUNTUP

Why it’s included: Desk & Dowel names it "best reach" among its five budget arms (Desk & Dowel: Best Budget Monitor Arm (updated Sep 22, 2026)). Evidence level: one small review site plus the retailer listing.

Pros (as reported by the cited source)

  • Longest reach of the five arms Desk & Dowel ranked: 19.4 inches of extension. (Desk & Dowel)
  • Clamp and grommet bases are both supplied. (Desk & Dowel)
  • 360-degree rotation and tilt that Desk & Dowel says suits portrait use. (Desk & Dowel)
  • Desk & Dowel lists 10-year support. (Desk & Dowel)

Cons (as reported by the cited source)

  • Tension ships pre-set to mid-range, so a 15 lb-plus screen needs seven or more turns of the hex key before it holds. (Desk & Dowel)
  • Tilt is set with a hex bolt on the VESA plate, not by hand. (Desk & Dowel)
  • MOUNTUP's own listing points tightly curved screens (1000R to 1800R) to a heavier-duty model. (Desk & Dowel)

Pick 4 · Tested by Wirecutter

Mount-It! Single Monitor Desk Mount (Wirecutter's budget pick)

Brand: Mount-It!

Why it’s included: It is the only budget arm Wirecutter picked after testing (Wirecutter: The Best Monitor Arms (updated Mar 2, 2026)). This is the one pick here with independent testing behind it, though Wirecutter says it is the weakest of its picks.

Pros (as reported by the cited source)

  • As easy to set up as Wirecutter's other picks, and its testers found it easier to swing and re-height than any of them. (Wirecutter)
  • Streamlined all-black look with no large logos. (Wirecutter)
  • 10-year warranty, which Wirecutter calls the longest it has seen for a model this inexpensive. (Wirecutter)

Cons (as reported by the cited source)

  • Doesn't feel premium: much of the housing is hollow plastic, and the cable-door clips are hard to close once cables are in. (Wirecutter)
  • More motion transfers from the desk to the monitor, and it was the most prone to wobble when the desk was bumped. (Wirecutter)
  • Limited to monitors of 17.6 lb or less, which Wirecutter says makes it the weakest of its picks. (Wirecutter)
